RC Rush v0.2.0


I'm happy to announce the game's first update since its launch! This update introduces multiple new features and brings numerous improvements, changes, and bug fixes.


New Features

Cones

Look out - someone has left traffic cones in the middle of the road! Cones will move when you hit them, unlike other obstacles. This makes them easy to recover from since they won't bring you to a complete stop.

Ice

Whoever forgot to pick up the cones must have also forgotten to salt the roads! Stretches of road will now be covered in ice, significantly lowering traction.

Sound Effects

As silly as it sounds, audio is a new addition! Because I created this game for a game jam, I didn't have time to add everything I wanted to. Sound, unfortunately, was one of the features that didn't make the initial release.

The game now features sound effects, even if they aren't exceptional. There still isn't any music, but I hope to add some in a future update!

Other

  • You can now adjust multiple settings, including graphics, in a settings screen found in the main menu.
  • Driving with a controller is now supported.
    • R2 to accelerate
    • L2 to decelerate
    • Left stick to steer
  • UI can now be navigated with a keyboard.


Improvements & Changes

UI

  • UI is now a blue color instead of black
  • Buttons now have textures that give them a sense of depth
  • Clicking on buttons will no longer draw a white box around them
  • A version indicator has been added to the menu. You may click on it to view the latest release announcement.

Graphics

  • Improved crate model and texture
  • Road texture is now seamless

Game

  • You can now steer when out of energy until your car comes to a stop, giving you one last chance to grab a battery.
  • The car now uses 60% less battery when not moving. Battery consumption will increase to 100% as you drive faster.
  • Acceleration and deceleration is now faster, making it much easier to recover after hitting obstacles.
  • Steering is now faster when moving slow and slower when moving fast. This feels more natural and also makes it easier to recover from obstacles.
  • Reduced starting top speed by 25%
  • Limited maximum top speed to 300% of new starting top speed


Fixes

  • Fixed a memory leak when opening the third-party licenses tab more than once
  • Fixed an issue where the car could clip into certain obstacles when moving sideways or backwards


Please remember that this game is still in early development ─ there's a long way to go until it reaches where I'd like it to be, and I'd appreciate any feedback you have to offer.
